Coming to Sweden for the first time everyone starts to think if this is a good idea - to stay here not being able to speak Swedish.
Fortunately, there is a place where it is possible to learn Swedish language for free.
Go to this web page to get the information: http://www.stockholm.se/ForskolaSkola/Svenskundervisning-for-invandrare-sfi/Att-soka-till-sfi/
or take your
Personal Number
Residence Permit
ID
and go straight to the SFI center (Hornsgatan 124). Take a paper waiting ticket and wait for the document check-up. They will write down your name, so listen for it! In a couple of minutes you'll be called to follow an interview specialist which will ask about your background and language abilities. Finally, you'll get the question about the school where you'd like to study: check them in advance, find the links to their official sites here: http://www.stockholm.se/ForskolaSkola/Svenskundervisning-for-invandrare-sfi/Att-soka-till-sfi/
The timing also varies, you can opt for the morning or evening classes (usually twice a week), sometimes weekends, all depending on the particular school.
After being registered you have to wait for a couple of weeks for your course to start.
NB: if you are not registered in Stockholm City, go to your local kommun (municipality) to learn about their local options, or to ask them to make an official letter to the SFI center, describing the reasons why it is better for you to study in the central area.
Don't forget that you must be at least 16 years old.
Lycka till!
